WHERE and WHEN: This edition of AMARE-MED will be held in Lisbon (Portugal) in the premises of the Portuguese Institute for Sea and
Atmosphere (IPMA) from 28 July to 3 August 2024.
TEACHERS:
- Prof. André Punt (School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, University of Washington, Seattle, USA)
- Dr. Lewis Barnett (NOAA Alaska Fisheries Science Center, USA).
CONTENT: This year’s school will focus on modelling trawl survey data using traditional and geostatistical methods and their use in multispecies models for fisheries management. Prof Punt and Dr Barnett will develop a series of lectures and practical exercises from the analysis of trawl survey data with spatio-temporal geostatistical models to the development of multispecies fisheries models.
FEE: There is no application fee.
SUPPORT: In the framework of initiatives for increasing capacity building, the AMARE-MED will support the participation of 2-3 scientists
from non-EU Mediterranean and Black Sea countries. Additional fellowships will be provided by the National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS) through the project The Laboratory on Quantitative Sustainability (TLQS).
DEADLINE: Application deadline is 25 May 2024. candidates have to apply through the online form.
SELECTION: Thirty applicants will be selected on the basis of experience, skills and demonstrated interest in quantitative fisheries management.
AMARE-MED 2024 is jointly organized by the *Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA, Portugal), National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS, Italy), National Research Council (CNR, Italy), IMR (Norway Institute of Marine Research).
