PhD position in avian migration modelling at Auburn University

The Berigan Lab at Auburn University College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment is seeking a PhD student to work on quantitative methods for modelling animal movement, with a focus on avian migration. The project will involve applying Bayesian state-space models or related approaches to large movement datasets, including GPS and Motus data, and offers room for the student to develop chapters aligned with their own interests in movement ecology.

The position is highly collaborative and will primarily build on existing datasets, although optional fieldwork may also be possible. Applicants should have strong R skills and a background in biology, statistics, or a related field. Experience with Bayesian modelling, avian movement data, or the Motus network will be an asset.

The position is expected to begin in Fall 2026. Compensation includes a stipend of $30,000 per year plus a tuition waiver. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled; the application deadline is April 21, 2026.
