The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science & Mathematics at Towson University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biological Sciences. The preferred start date is August 2027.

The successful candidate will primarily teach introductory-level undergraduate biology and upper-level courses in evolution, conservation biology, or ecology. They may also teach undergraduate and graduate courses aligned with their area(s) of expertise.

The candidate is expected to establish a competitive research program that engages undergraduate students in biology and/or related majors. The research program should focus on plant or algal biology, lichenology, or mycology, and may be conducted at any scale from the organismal to the ecosystem level. The successful candidate is also expected to pursue external research funding and disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at professional meetings.

Successful applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences or a related field, postdoctoral experience, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, and the ability to establish a productive research/scholarly program involving undergraduate and Master’s-level graduate students.

Pre-tenure faculty members are assigned an instructional workload of five course units per academic year. The targeted salary range is $79,000–$83,000, commensurate with experience.
